Betsy DeVos Wears Crown Of Education Reform For Conservatives Everywhere

The 2016 Presidential Election proved two things simultaneously: there is footing for nationalistic pride on the political stage and that people are willing to embrace outsiders, so long as their promises of change come to fruition. Donald Trump wove that wave of change to the White House and, along the way, he brought some real reformers with him into his administration. While there were a variety of big names that were added to his administration, Scott Pruitt, and Ben Carson to name a few, it was his underrated nomination for the Secretary of Education position that may prove to be the most fruitful. Betsy DeVos, a staunch Republican from the state of Michigan, was brought on board and narrowly confirmed in a contentious Senate hearing. Now as the leader of the Department of Education, DeVos has a long list of tasks ahead of her. While DeVos doesn’t register the same amount of media attention as some of her Trump Administration contemporaries, she certainly has a history to bank on if you are a conservative.

We could spend time going into Betsy DeVos’ upbringing but that wouldn’t be a fruitful use of our time. Instead, we’ll say that Betsy DeVos was born and raised in the state of Michigan into a wealthy, religious, and conservative family. DeVos was raised to believe in the core aspects surrounding faith, family, and reformation and she has used those ideas to become the politician that she is today. In Washington D.C., Betsy DeVos’ history won’t count for much. Instead, people are going to pay close attention to the work that she is attempting to do and that is, in essence, reform the state of education in America.

As a proud reformer, Betsy DeVos truly believes that it is her job to improve the world around her in a meaningful way. In the field of education, particularly public education, there are so many different places that DeVos can make a difference. DeVos will address education reform by doubling down on what has made her an icon in the conservative movement: school choice. School choice is a concept that was originally developed by Milton Friedman more than 50 years ago. Nowadays, the topic is more associated with DeVos than Friedman and her effort is a huge reason as to why.

Betsy DeVos has worked to spread school choice to states all around the country over the past 30 years. Alongside her husband, Dick DeVos, Betsy DeVos has managed to push school choice into 17 states and more than 30 private institutions. As of her most recent counting, more than 250,000 students are currently benefiting from school choice. Now, with a Federal position and the Presidential mandate at her back, Betsy DeVos can seriously ramp up those numbers over the coming years. Conservatives finally have an education reformer to rally behind and Betsy DeVos will be seeking to take advantage of their passion and enthusiasm in order to continue fighting to change the state of education throughout America. Only time will tell if she succeeds, but things are looking up.

Betsy DeVos On Topic Article

Have you seen Betsy DeVos in the news lately? There has never been a more polarizing figure in American politics. However, if you follow education reform, then you know she had her work cut out for her from the very beginning. However, DeVos has never been one to shy away from a challenge, and she has been working within education reform for many years now. In fact, she was inspired to do so because of her mother, who was a public school teacher.

DeVos has met challenges along the way. It’s no secret that education reform is difficult to talk about. There are so many different ways to approach the education system in America. However, DeVos believes that educational choice is the right way for Americans go to school. Some agree, and others have pointed out the flaws in that type of thinking.

For one, people don’t agree with public funding for educational choice, because it could lead to supporting for-profit education systems with taxpayer money. However, the truth is that philanthropy has long supported educational choice programs, not public funding. In fact, some of the major donors to the cause include Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Sam Walton. These philanthropists have gotten behind the idea that students should be allowed to choose where they go to school, which is what DeVos believes is the whole point.

Education should be about the students, she recently stated in an interview with “60 Minutes.” Leslie Stahl had some tough questions for the US Education Secretary, asking whether she thought that any of the new programs were as successful or more successful than those in the past. For example, he questioned her about standardized testing.

For years, educators have said that standardized testing only teaches memorization and not comprehension. There are other issues with the education system, including Common Core method teaching. Betsy DeVos is not a fan. She believes that parents and students should have the option to pick where they want to go to school, and that doesn’t always mean a for-profit school either. There are magnet programs, virtual schools, homeschooling, charter schools, and private schools that can be selected under educational choice.

The whole idea is that students don’t necessarily have to go to the school that they are zoned for. Is it a temporary solution to a much larger problem with public school education? DeVos is unsure. She has seen great success with the new program in certain states, however. For example, Florida has the most educational choice options in the entire country with a tuition-based scholarship program that is helping students go to the schools of their dreams.

There are other states that are also building their educational options, including Louisiana. However, DeVos shies away from questions about the effectiveness of charter schools in Michigan. For many years, she tried to get a bill passed called “Kids First! Coalition” that was voted down each time. The bill would have supported charter schools and educational choice options in Michigan as well.

Betsy DeVos and Powerful Focus

Arguing with Betsy DeVos is something that probably should require a lot of guts. DeVos, after all, is one of the most gutsy individuals in politics nowadays. She’s one of the gutsiest public figures around in general. She’s often seen right next to President Donald Trump. President Trump is associated with his bold and oftentimes assertive actions. DeVos, on the other hand, is associated with her rather collected and serene temperament. Although she’s the definition of serenity, she’s far from a pushover. She’s a philanthropist who appreciates the idea of behaving with elegance and grace. She’s also someone, though, who knows that talking gets people nowhere. Actions are all that matter. DeVos is all about pure action. Dick DeVos is exactly like her in that way. Her husband is a businessman and philanthropist who has many feelings that are just like hers. Betsy and Dick both appreciate the great things they have in this world. They like to express their gratitude. They communicated their gratitude by setting up a charitable group they called the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation in 1989. This organization, as its name communicates, is family-oriented. It concentrates on much more than basic family matters, too. This group is all about helpful donations that go toward causes that encompass many critical sectors. The couple gives respectable amounts of money to causes that matter to the American people. Some examples of the causes that lead to tangible effects in the United States are education, poverty and art.

Betsy DeVos wants all of the bright-eyed young people in the nation to have superb educational opportunities. Her children luckily enough had five-star schooling opportunities. She isn’t oblivious to the fact that there are many in the country who haven’t had them. There are many youngsters at this moment in time who have no option but to sign up for schools that just aren’t appropriate for their individual learning requirements and hopes. DeVos has been waxing poetic about educational choice and its strengths for decades. Her husband knows all too well that educational choice is a topic that encourages her to push to the front no matter what. DeVos is an individual who wants to be heard. That’s one incentive President Trump had when he selected her for his team. She thrives as the Secretary of Education. It’s in many ways something she was born to do. Eager Elisabeth Prince wanted to do so much while she was learning at Calvin College. She’s actually probably exceeded her expectations. Donations have been an enormous part of her existence. Political matters have been an everyday topic for her and for her family members. She’s always trying to do things that are in the best interests of society. She cares about people who are part of all age groups. She’s a mother who always looks out for the kids in this world. She, at the same time, also has a grasp of the value of adults who are simply trying to make it.
